I only spent $34.30. It's a good thing it came to 34 because I had exactly 34 dollars in my wallet. I got four skeins of Debbie Bliss SoHo. Here is a picture of the color I got. I also got a skein of dark grey heather wool to mix with it and didn't see the tiny word 'superwash' until I got home. Well, it might work.
I could have spent an obscene amount of money in there. Oh, there was such beautiful baby alpaca and cashmere and angora and bamboo yarn. Some of them I wouldn't even want knit; I'd just hold them and pet them like kittens.
I was recently wondering something about fibers made from fur. If yarn can be spun from rabbit fur and sheep fur and and alpaca fur, can it be made from human fur? I know there is a difference between fur and hair, but I don't understand what the difference is (poodles are said to have hair rather than fur, but I don't know how it's different from any other dog's fur). Is it required to be fur and not hair? I am not planning on taking up human hair yarn production, but I have wondered about it. After all, there is hair jewelry. Well, not so much anymore, but it used to be quite popular and not at all weird to wear a beloved's hair woven into jewelry. So, why not yarn? I should just google it; I'm sure to find a site on it.
I am losing feeling in some of my fingers. Now it's mostly the left hand. I guess I should take a break from knitting but I'm on a roll. Typing is difficult.
I started a cowl (this is the general idea, but I made up my own pattern) for my nephew's fiancée. Here are photos:
I am using Lion Brand Romance using two stands. I got to about 3 - 4 inches and decided I didn't like the way it was looking. I pulled it all out. For the second time. I can't decide if I should try one strand on this loom or two strands on the Knifty Knitter yellow loom. I guess maybe this is what happens to people who make up their own patterns - pulling out and redoing, I mean.
I have been very disappointed with the selection of wool in the craft stores around here. Quite by accident (on random yarn site, clicked the button for where I can find the yarn near me) I discovered there is a yarn shop in the next town. An actual yarn shop. I am off work today so I am going to venture out and see if (a) it really exists and (b) I can locate it.
I am also working on what will be my first felting (fulling, whatever) project. Using the black alpaca, I am going to make iPod purses for my best friend and one of her daughters (the other daughter is 14 and, like most teenagers, naturally doesn't like anything). The hardest part is that I don't have one of these gadgets myself so I'm iffy on the size, even though I looked it up online and got the dimensions. Not having a model is difficult. Maybe I can take my knitting into Target, see how it matches up against an iPod (those that are bolted to the shelf) and make security uncomfortable.
I got some alpaca chunky yarn on sale for $4.47 per hank. I want to learn how to felt and make a felted purse.
